Every day, he got up and went into the smithy and did his best to do right by his Da. But it was never enough. Not good enough, or fast enough, or hot enough, or clean enough, and he was running out of enoughs that he could endure. The invitation had been a glimmer of adventure in an otherwise tedious existence, and Merrik was beginning to think that enoughlessness was going to be the song of his remaining days.
